Shirley enjoys going to the beach and doing nothing but listening to waves. She does this work so that every child with trauma and abuse in their life will know that their past does not have to define their future. Shirley loves seeing a difference being made, no matter how small or simple.

A Single Moment Can Have a Profound Impact

REACH Northwest was founded because of Shirley Turner’s personal story. Though she wasn’t in foster care, her childhood was filled with chaos and hardship. When she was eight, a kind comment from an older cousin broke through the dysfunction, making her feel seen and understood for the first time. That moment changed the trajectory of her life and inspired her mission to let kids from hard places know that their past doesn’t decide their future and that there’s always hope.

This is why Shirley started REACH Northwest—to help foster families create safe, nurturing spaces where one meaningful moment can transform a child’s life forever.

Programs

We provide foster families with opportunities for rest, connection, support and training so they can focus on investing in the lives of the kids in their care.

Tools

We help foster families understand trauma-informed care and behavioral management techniques to build secure relationships and trust with the children in their care.

Resources

We meet the immediate needs of foster families whenever possible. This could be providing groceries, clothes, or a new bed for a child in their care.
